Call of Duty games get a big update that reduces file sizes

Season Two Reloaded also lets you remove game modes you don’t play. by S. Shah, Engadget With each new update, the latest Call of Duty games have seen their combined size grow to gargantuan proportions. To lighten the load on your hard drive, Activision is reducing Warzone and Modern Warfare‘s overall file sizes across platforms by more than 30GB and over 10GB, respectively, as part of its Season Two Reloaded release. The catch is that the latest update (complete with data optimization perks) is “larger than usual” at 7.4GB to 14.18GB for Black Ops Cold War, and 52GB to 57.8GB for Warzone. Bloated file sizes are a frustrating characteristic of modern AAA games that developers are increasingly seeking to address. Last year, Epic Games shrank Fortnite‘s total size by […]

“We were unable to salvage the varying assortment of data we had left from Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2.” by Joe Skrebels, IGN The Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection team was “unable to salvage” code for the original versions of Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, meaning it had to include the newer Sigma versions of those games. That also means that we’ll likely never see new versions of Ninja Gaiden Black or Ninja Gaiden 2 outside of their original Xbox home.Speaking to IGN, head of Team Ninja Fumihiko Yasuda explained the choice of the Sigma editions in Master Collection: “The reason we chose these 3 titles for the collection is because they represent the latest installments of the numbered series and […]

by Ewan Moore, Gaming Bible At the time of writing, developer CD Projekt RED has just released its second major update on all platforms for Cyberpunk 2077. The accompanying patch notes detail hundreds of fixes and adjustments for a game that, as we all know, launched in a disastrous state on consoles. In the wake of Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch and the myriad of issues around the game, you’ll probably remember that CDPR made the wise decision to put a hold on all planned expansions both paid and free in an effort to focus entirely on fixing the base game. While there’s clearly still work to be done as CDPR works to restore its reputation and improve Cyberpunk 2077 at the same time, the good news is that […]

This Sealed Super Mario Bros. Could Become The Most Expensive Video Game Collectable Ever

Eclipsing even the Nintendo PlayStation by Damien McFerran, Nintendo Life Remember last year, when we reported that a sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. on the NES sold for an eye-watering $114,000 at auction? Well, there’s another copy being auctioned at the moment which currently stands at $310,000 – and it still has seven days remaining before the auction closes. Assuming that the price rises in the next few days, there’s a very real chance that a copy of one of the most common NES games will become the most expensive video game collectable of all time, surpassing even the Nintendo PlayStation – of which there is currently only one known unit on the open market. For the sake of comparison, there are 40.24 million copies of Super […]

Buying a PS5 could be a headache for a while yet by Rory Mellon, Tom’s Guide Let’s face it, the PS5 restock situation over the last four months has been nothing short of a disaster — and it looks like the situation is only going to get worse.  For the unaware, there is currently a global semiconductor shortage delaying the manufacturing of electronics, and this chip shortage is now reaching a crisis point. “There is a perfect storm of supply and demand factors going on here. But basically, there is a new level of demand that can’t be kept up with, everyone is in crisis and it is getting worse,” claims tech analyst Neil Campling (via The Guardian). The crux of the issue […]

Why The Snyder Cut of Justice League Isn’t Widescreen

The Mother of all Boxes. by Matt Fowler, IGN Superhero fans were recently treated to a throwback aspect ratio when WandaVision opened its run with the yesteryear sitcom screen of 4:3 – the glorious black and white square that viewers saw on their sets for decades. But that was semi-expected, given WandaVision’s TV time-hopping gimmick. What people may not have been prepared for was Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. The Snyder Cut) being presented in a very similar ratio. The trailers for the film were not in the widescreen format like the theatrical release was. And indeed, Snyder confirmed that – yes – all of the new Justice League, which premieres March 18 on HBO Max, is presented in what was once the standard aspect ratio […]

Sony continues to tease its VR plans for PS5 by Tom Warren, The Verge Sony is revealing its new VR controllers for the PS5 today. The orb-shaped controllers look more like typical VR controllers than existing PlayStation Move motion controllers, and they also include the same adaptive trigger technology found on the DualSense PS5 controller. Each controller has tensions in the triggers, and Sony is aiming to use this tech in future VR games. The controllers also have haptic feedback, and finger touch detection that will let them detect fingers without having to press areas where you rest your thumb, index, or middle fingers. “This enables you to make more natural gestures with your hands during gameplay,” says Hideaki Nishino, head […]
