Naughty Dog is reportedly remaking the original The Last of Us for PlayStation 5

Studio said to have taken charge of the Project from another Developer in 2020 by Tom Ivan, VGC Sony Interactive Entertainment is planning to release a remake of the original The Last of Us for PlayStation 5. That’s according to a new Bloomberg report which claims the project was originally in development at PlayStation’s Visual Arts Service Group before the studio was switched to a support role on the game. The remake’s development is now being led by series creator Naughty Dog, which is said to have taken charge of the project following the completion of The Last of Us Part 2, which was released in June 2020. Sony reportedly rejected plans for Days Gone 2

Internal conflict is said to have resulted in key departures; Studio now working on new Intellectual Property (IP) by Andy Robinson, VGC PlayStation rejected plans for a sequel to open-world Sony Bend title Days Gone, it’s claimed. That’s according to a new Bloomberg report on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first-party development. According to the story, Sony’s increasing focus on exclusive blockbusters has come at the expense of “niche” teams within its first-party organisation. One such casualty was reportedly Sony Bend, which is claimed to have had a 2019 pitch for Days Gone 2 rejected. “Although the first game had been profitable, its development had been lengthy and critical reception was mixed, so a Days Gone 2 wasn’t seen as a viable option,” Bloomberg states. Instead, journalist […]

Outriders studio is giving in-game gifts to its players for launch issues

A little sign of appreciation by Eric Van Allen, Destructoid People Can Fly’s Outriders went live last week, and it had some trouble keeping servers up right out of the gate. Though the situation has mostly stabilized since then, the developer announced today that it’s sending launch window Outriders players an “appreciation package.” In a lengthy Reddit post outlining the first major updates to Outriders after its launch, the studio says it’s disappointed the launch didn’t go as planned. As a show of appreciation to those who stuck it out and sent messages of support, the team is sending out a special package of in-game gifts to players who either played between March 31 and April 11, or who experienced an automatic inventory wipe restoration. The items are a level-appropriate Legendary […]

Cancelled Game ‘Castlevania: Resurrection’ Resurfaces as Lost Prototype Is Found

Great news for video games preservation! More than 20 years after its official cancellation, Castlevania: Resurrection has once again become the source of speculation after a supposed early prototype of the Dreamcast game resurfaced. The reveal of the prototype happened thanks to the little-known site Sega Dreamcast Info, created and kept by Laurent Comby, a one-man team dedicated to preserving Sega games, commercials and technology. The revealed prototype supposedly pre-dates E3’s 1999 presentation of Castlevania: Resurrection, when journalists were able to access a playable version of the game behind closed doors. This was the only time the game was ever shown to some sort of public, until last weekend, when a video of the prototype emerged. In the video, we can see a rough version […]

Microsoft Dunks Servers Into Boiling Fluid to Cool Them Off

by Joel Hruska, Extreme Tech Microsoft has been exploring innovative ways to cool its data center servers for some years now. In the past, the company has previously made waves for its offshore data center cooling using seawater via its Project Natick. Now, it’s showing off a two-phase liquid cooling solution it says enables even higher server densities. The new system uses a non-conductive cooling fluid. Microsoft doesn’t precisely identify it, but it sounds similar to 3M’s Novec 1230, with a very low boiling point around 122F (Novec 1230 boils at 120.6F). Boiling off the coolant creates a vapor cloud, which rises and contacts a cooled condenser at the top of the tank lid. The liquid then rains back down into the […]

533 million Facebook users’ phone numbers and personal data have been leaked online

by Aaron Holmes, Business Insider A user in a low-level hacking forum on Saturday published the phone numbers and personal data of hundreds of millions of Facebook users for free. The exposed data includes the personal information of over 533 million Facebook users from 106 countries, including over 32 million records on users in the US, 11 million on users in the UK, and 6 million on users in India. It includes their phone numbers, Facebook IDs, full names, locations, birthdates, bios, and, in some cases, email addresses. Insider reviewed a sample of the leaked data and verified several records by matching known Facebook users’ phone numbers with the IDs listed in the data set. We also verified records by […]

Monster Hunter Rise Sells 5 Million Copies In First Week, Boosts Entire Series Beyond 70M

by  Eddie Makuch, GameSpot Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise has now climbed to 5 million sales since it was released on March 26. Last month, it sold 4 million copies in its first three days alone. Capcom clarified that Rise has shipped 5 million copies globally, so it hasn’t necessarily sold that many through to consumers in its first week. But it’s still a gigantic number and it speaks to the enormity and appeal of the franchise. Monster Hunter games have shipped 66 million units as December 31, 2020, Capcom said. So with Rise’s figures added on, that number climbs to about 71 million. The Monster Hunter series debuted in 2004 and has grown massively since. Once popular primarily in Japan–one Japanese tech CEO gave his company the day […]

The deal is reportedly worth $21.9 billion. by A. Tarantola, Engadget America’s ground-pounders of tomorrow will soon be equipped with custom-built HoloLens headsets as part of a decade-long contract struck between the Department of Defense and Microsoft, the Pentagon announced Wednesday. Per the $21.88 billion deal, Microsoft will supply some 120,000 of its AR units to the US Army. This announcement follows a $480 million deal between Microsoft and the DoD in 2018 to develop the Integrated Visual Augmented System (IVAS) based on the standard $3,500 HoloLens headset and augmented using Azure Cloud Services. “The program delivers enhanced situational awareness, enabling information sharing and decision-making in a variety of scenarios,” Microsoft Technical Fellow, Alex Kipman, wrote in a Wednesday blog post. PUBG Lite is shutting down at the end of April

Fs in the chat by Bijan Stephen, The Verge There are a few different versions of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds — the game that popularized the battle royale genre and inspired a legion of competitors — which you can play on everything from your underpowered phone to your high-end gaming rig. At the end of April, however, the list will be one entry shorter: PUBG Lite, the free-to-play version of the ultimate life and death fight specced for lower-end machines, is going dark on April 29th. New downloads were shut down on March 30th. In its note to fans, Krafton, the game’s publisher, didn’t give a reason for the impending closure. Here’s what it said in full: We are deeply grateful for the passion and support from the […]

by Clare Duffy, CNN Business New York (CNN Business)Grab the tissues. The internet is freaking out over a rumor about the possible impending death of Mario, the famous, red-wearing, Italian plumber who changed the world of video games with the release of “Super Mario Bros” 35 years ago. Let’s back up: In September, the “Super Mario Bros” franchise celebrated its 35th anniversary with the launch of two remastered, classic games — “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” and “Super Mario Bros 35” — for the Switch console that would be available for a limited run until March 31. Nintendo (NTDOF), which owns the franchise, also released other 35th anniversary Super Mario products that would be on sale through March 31. Call of Duty games get a big update that reduces file sizes

Season Two Reloaded also lets you remove game modes you don’t play. by S. Shah, Engadget With each new update, the latest Call of Duty games have seen their combined size grow to gargantuan proportions. To lighten the load on your hard drive, Activision is reducing Warzone and Modern Warfare‘s overall file sizes across platforms by more than 30GB and over 10GB, respectively, as part of its Season Two Reloaded release. The catch is that the latest update (complete with data optimization perks) is “larger than usual” at 7.4GB to 14.18GB for Black Ops Cold War, and 52GB to 57.8GB for Warzone. Bloated file sizes are a frustrating characteristic of modern AAA games that developers are increasingly seeking to address. Last year, Epic Games shrank Fortnite‘s total size by […]

Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2’s Code Has Been Lost, So Don’t Expect a Ninja Gaiden Black Remaster

“We were unable to salvage the varying assortment of data we had left from Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2.” by Joe Skrebels, IGN The Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection team was “unable to salvage” code for the original versions of Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, meaning it had to include the newer Sigma versions of those games. That also means that we’ll likely never see new versions of Ninja Gaiden Black or Ninja Gaiden 2 outside of their original Xbox home.Speaking to IGN, head of Team Ninja Fumihiko Yasuda explained the choice of the Sigma editions in Master Collection: “The reason we chose these 3 titles for the collection is because they represent the latest installments of the numbered series and […]

Nine Free ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ DLC Packs Appear Online, Including Night City Expansion

by Ewan Moore, Gaming Bible At the time of writing, developer CD Projekt RED has just released its second major update on all platforms for Cyberpunk 2077. The accompanying patch notes detail hundreds of fixes and adjustments for a game that, as we all know, launched in a disastrous state on consoles. In the wake of Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch and the myriad of issues around the game, you’ll probably remember that CDPR made the wise decision to put a hold on all planned expansions both paid and free in an effort to focus entirely on fixing the base game. While there’s clearly still work to be done as CDPR works to restore its reputation and improve Cyberpunk 2077 at the same time, the good news is that […]

Huge ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Update Features Hundreds Of Changes

by Ewan Moore, Gaming Bible Cyberpunk 2077’s much-needed 1.2 patch will be making its way to PC, consoles, and Stadia “soon”, CD Projekt RED has confirmed. The open-world sci-fi RPG got off to a rough start when it launched late last year, prompting apologies and promises to do better from the developer. The slightly delayed 1.2 patch is a substantial step forward for Cyberpunk 2077, offering literally hundreds of changes both big and small. Some of these were teased earlier this month – such as fixes to the way police in Night City appear and act – but there are plenty more we’re just now learning about. The patch notes cover changes to the game’s quest, open world, design, levels, audio, UI, […]

This Sealed Super Mario Bros. Could Become The Most Expensive Video Game Collectable Ever

Eclipsing even the Nintendo PlayStation by Damien McFerran, Nintendo Life Remember last year, when we reported that a sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. on the NES sold for an eye-watering $114,000 at auction? Well, there’s another copy being auctioned at the moment which currently stands at $310,000 – and it still has seven days remaining before the auction closes. Assuming that the price rises in the next few days, there’s a very real chance that a copy of one of the most common NES games will become the most expensive video game collectable of all time, surpassing even the Nintendo PlayStation – of which there is currently only one known unit on the open market. For the sake of comparison, there are 40.24 million copies of Super […]

PS5 restock disaster is set to get worse — here’s why

Buying a PS5 could be a headache for a while yet by Rory Mellon, Tom’s Guide Let’s face it, the PS5 restock situation over the last four months has been nothing short of a disaster — and it looks like the situation is only going to get worse.  For the unaware, there is currently a global semiconductor shortage delaying the manufacturing of electronics, and this chip shortage is now reaching a crisis point. “There is a perfect storm of supply and demand factors going on here. But basically, there is a new level of demand that can’t be kept up with, everyone is in crisis and it is getting worse,” claims tech analyst Neil Campling (via The Guardian). The crux of the issue […]
