Even though the Call of Duty franchise has seen a new game released to it on a yearly basis, the majority of the gaming community has still not tired of it. This has allowed Activision to remain at the top of the first person shooter pile for almost a decade.
Now with the success of ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’, the latest game in the series, Activision’s President and CEO Bobby Kotick has told investors that ‘Destiny’, the upcoming title from Bungie, the creators of Halo, could be Activision’s “next billion dollar franchise.”
Per Kotick, “My colleagues and I expect that Destiny will become the best selling new video game IP in history when it launches across Xbox and PlayStation consoles on September 9th.”
Now Activision’s expectations are far from presumptuous since there is currently very few new IPs announced for next gen consoles thus far. However, it should be noted that their rival, Electronic Arts is also seeking to claim that “billion dollar franchise” title with the Xbox One exclusive, ‘Titanfall’ when its released next month.
